Over 500 shareholders collectively invested over £80,000 to purchase the building
Yr Heliwr is an historic pub and hotel that dates from the mid 19th century. It is located in the conservation area of old Nefyn, and was an integral part of community life in Nefyn for many generations.
The building had been empty since 2009, and needed a complete internal redesign and renovation.
Working with a committee of volunteers, Dobson Owen helped to re-design the pub, with a new extension to the rear housing a community hub and events space, as well as ‘Llety’ accommodation consisting of 4 en-suite rooms on the floors above with bespoke hand built bunk style beds.

Building work began in February 2020, and Yr Heliwr finally reopened to the public in July 2021
Detailed designs for key elements of the interior and frontage onto the street were provided, including a new bar, banquette seating and enlarged bay window seat. New wooden sash windows replaced the original frames, while the original inglenook fireplace was restored and renewed.
Yr Heliwr received funding from a number of organisations, including the Welsh Government, Gwynedd Council and the National Lottery.
