Responding to the community
Sadly the school closed its doors in December 2021 after the council decided it was not practical or financially viable to keep the school open. But following strong local objections and concerns about the negative impact of the closure, Gwynedd Council made an offer to transfer the lease of the old school building to the community.
A group of volunteers came together to lead the process, and Dobson Owen has been engaged to assist them in developing ideas on how to save the building by means of its adaptive reuse into a community facility.

The outcome
The proposals being explored include a café with a combined history and heritage display, a multi-use space, and a community garden and allotment, overlooked by the café. Part of the school yard may also accommodate an enterprise facility with converted shipping containers that could be rented out to small local start-up businesses or artists.
