A sizeable extension was added onto one end of the house replacing an old garage
This modest sized Arts & Crafts style 1920s bungalow had not changed at all in 100yrs, and so was badly in need of a full refurbishment and modernisation. The client also needed an additional 2 bedrooms and a new and enlarged kitchen, with a more relaxed arrangement of dining and living space, opening onto a recessed veranda to the rear.
The outcome
The new addition provides 2 more generous bedrooms, a bathroom and crucially a new and better defined entrance off the semi-enclosed courtyard space. Internally a double height hallway and cloakroom space also leads to a back door and new utility room.
Original details such as the roughcast render and corbelled gable parapets were carefully recreated in the extension, and the single glazed steel windows replaced with new slimline heritage style double glazed aluminium windows, emulating the original Crittall style pattern.
